DENVER — This Wednesday is National Coffee with a Cop day-- a day where cops and citizens are encouraged to come together to build relationships.

The day began as part of National Community Policing Week in 2016 and now continues each year on the first Wednesday in October, furthering efforts nationwide to bridge the gap between the community and the law.

There are several events happening in Colorado on Wednesday as part of National Coffee with a Cop day. You can find a complete list of them here. Most are happening from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The Coffee with a Cop movement began in 2011 in Hawthorne, Ca. Officers within that department were looking for ways to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day.

Coffee with Cop events are now held in all 50 states and is one of the most successful community-oriented policing programs across the country. The program has also expanded to outside the United States to Canada, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Latin America.
