Man facing murder charge after Lakewood shooting that killed man, injured woman

1 man died as a result of the shooting in the 1500 block of Depew Street. A suspect has been taken into custody.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — One person has died and a second person was injured after a shooting in Lakewood, according to a spokesperson for the Lakewood Police Department (LPD).

At about 1 a.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1500 block of Depew Street, just west of the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.

Arriving officers discovered that two people were shot, according to LPD. Both victims were taken to the hospital. An adult man, later identified as Roderick Vecchiarelli, 21, died from his injuries. The second victim, a woman, is still being treated for life threatening injuries. 

According to police, witnesses reported seeing a white hatchback fleeing the area northbound a short time after the shooting. The suspect vehicle was later located by Edgewater Police after crashing in the area near Sloan's Lake on 20th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard, police said. 

36-year-old Danny Carter of Denver was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery, according to police. A woman that was in the vehicle with Carter is not being charged at this time.
