DENVER — A man has been arrested for first-degree murder in connection with a shooting in the 8400 block of E. Colfax Tuesday night that left one person dead, according to Denver Police.

Herman Colbert was arrested shortly after the shooting at the Western Motel. When officers arrived at the motel, Colbert was lying face down on the ground with his arms out to the side and a firearm a short distance away, according to a probable cause statement from Denver police.

The victim was located in the east side of the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. That person, identified Friday as Omar King, 42, was taken to the hospital where he later died.

A witness told police she was near the manager's office when she heard someone screaming, the probable cause statement says. When she looked up she saw a man believed to be Colbert in a silver Audi. She told police she saw another man "hit Colbert at least two times on the side of the face" according to the probable cause statement.

She told police the man was walking away from the Audi, when "Colbert got out of the Audi and fired one shot," the document says.

Surveillance video from the motel corroborated the witnesses statements.
