1 of 3 suspects arrested following Weld County shooting that injured 5

The 17-year-old suspect was arrested in Denver. Two adult suspects remain at large.

WELD COUNTY, Colo. — One of the three suspects wanted for a shooting at a home near Brighton has been arrested, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

Five people were injured in the shooting, which happened the night of Feb. 29 at a house in the area of Weld County Road 2 and Star Lane. Three suspects were later identified – a teenager and two men in their late teens or early 20s. 

The teenager, a 17-year-old Denver resident, was arrested Tuesday evening by the Denver Police Department (DPD) and members of FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office said this came days after investigators executed two search warrants at the teen’s known addresses in Denver.

He was not home when the warrants were served, and deputies said federal investigators proceeded to track the suspect “both digitally and physically” until his arrest.

This suspect has not been identified by name because he is under 18 and has not been charged as an adult. He is being held at the Platte Valley Youth Services Center in Greeley on a $100,000 bond.

Efforts are still underway to find the other two suspects involved in the attack. They are described as:

  • An African-American man in his late teens or early 20s. At the time of the shooting, witnesses said he had puffy hair that was worn in a bun, and was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and t-shirt.
  • An African-American man in his late teens or early 20s. At the time of the shooting, witnesses said he was wearing a blue satin Ralph’s Tigers jacket by Polo. Police said this jacket had a style similar to a letterman jacket.

The five people who were shot were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
