2 arrested after Good Samaritans' car stolen after rollover crash

The stolen vehicle is a 2016 Toyota Rav4 with Arizona license plate No. BSR-3729.

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. — Deputies arrested two suspects related to a carjacking incident on Sunday. Deputies said a vehicle was stolen from two Good Samaritans who stopped to help after they came upon a rollover crash early that morning.

The incident happened at around 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of CO 86 and County Road 125, according to a news release from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.

The victims had stopped to help after they found a red Dodge Grand Caravan that had rolled over. While they were speaking to a man who was apparently driving the van, deputies said he pulled a gun on them and stole their SUV.

According to the release, the man was with two other women at the time. The three took off in the victims’ 2016 silver Toyota Rav4 with Arizona license plate No. BSR-3729.

The two Good Samaritans were not hurt, deputies said.

Officials said they are following up with leads on the remaining two "persons of interest." 

The stolen Toyota Rav4 has not been recovered, however a second stolen vehicle, as well as a stolen handgun, were recovered when the two suspects were taken into custody, the Sheriff’s Office said. It was also discovered that the red Dodge Grand Caravan that was involved in the accident had been stolen out of Denver.  

The Sheriff's Office said no names or pending charges are being released because it's an on-going criminal investigation.
