Burglaries reported in Denver, Lakewood overnight

At least three businesses fell victim to smash-and-grabs early Monday morning in Lakewood. The incident happened just days after thieves used a cement truck to break into a Lakewood gun store.

LAKEWOOD — Burglaries were reported overnight at businesses in both Denver and Lakewood early Monday morning.

The first of at least three incidents in Lakewood was reported at 3:11 a.m., according to a spokesperson for Lakewood police. Two more incidents were reported before 3:30 a.m.

Break-ins were reported at 1095 S. Wadsworth Blvd., 1890 S. Wadsworth Blvd. and 7620 W. Colfax Ave. They include the Super Smoke Shop, a convenience store and the EZ Pawn shop.

In each case, police said the suspects used either a crowbar or bat to make their way inside and were in and out within three minutes.

After reviewing surveillance video, Lakewood Police said all three incidents are related. The video has not provided many clues about their identities because the suspects were wearing gloves and hooded sweatshirts with their faces concealed.

According to a news release, the suspects may be associated with a dark blue truck, possibly an early 2000's model Chevrolet or GMC 2500.

Last week, thieves used a cement truck to break into a Lakewood gun store. They got away with more than a dozen guns.

Denver police are also investigating a series of burglaries that happened early Monday. At least four businesses were broken into between 2 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Monday, according to police.

The first break-in was reported in the 1600 block of East 52nd Avenue. Others were reported at 1995 S. Broadway, 930 W. Byers Ave., and 2020 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver police said. At least three of the businesses are marijuana shops.
