A bike shop in Golden that was recently the center of a foiled theft scam was burgled over the weekend, with the suspects getting away with $50,000 worth of high-end bikes, according to the store.

The Golden Bike Shop posted surveillance video on Facebook of what they say appears to be two suspects smash in the front window of the store sometime in the early morning hours of June 16.

The thieves made out with seven bikes.

Bike shops have become frequent targets of thieves. Since last summer, thieves have broken into at least six shops.

"We weren't especially surprised watching other shops get broken into," said Clay Donovan, the manager of Golden Bike Shop. "[We] knew we were probably a target. Knew we had probably been cased already. Knew it was a matter of time."

In April, employees at this same store worked with police to catch a suspected serial bike thief who was trying to rip off the shop as a part of a multi-county scam.

Police learned Michael Mancuso was wanted for several felony warrants and set up a sting operation.

When they tried arresting him, he ran, then tripped, and they got him.

The store is urging people to be on the lookout for the following bikes:

  • Pivot Mach 5.5 MD Red XX1 Eagle with Reynolds carbon wheels
  • Santa Cruz Hightower 27.5+ C LG White GX Eagle
  • Mondraker Foxy C 27.5 RR SL SM Black X01 Eagle with Enve carbon wheels
