A burglary suspect was found injured inside an automotive repair shop early Saturday morning, and later died from those injuries, Aurora police said.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., officers were called to the 9200 block of East Colfax Avenue on a report of a burglary in progress after a suspect was seen on live-feed security cameras inside the business.
When police arrived, they found a man armed with a “lethal cutting instrument,” suffering from apparent self-inflicted injuries.
Police say the man continued to inflict injury to himself, and eventually threatened officers with the weapon.
In an attempt to deescalate the situation, officers gave verbal orders and used other “less lethal options,” that were ineffective, police said.
The suspect then barricaded himself inside a different room inside the business. When officers were able to get in, they found the man unresponsive.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and later died, police said.
Police are unable to elaborate on what the lethal cutting instrument was or what less lethal options were used, citing an active investigation.
