Aurora police investigating woman's shooting death

Officers found Diana Malone lying on a sidewalk on Kenton Street Monday afternoon.

AURORA, Colo. — The Aurora Police Department is investigating after a woman was found dead on a sidewalk Monday afternoon. 

Police said around 1:30 p.m., they got a call about a woman lying on a sidewalk on Kenton Street just south of Colfax Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman who had sustained apparent trauma and died on the scene. 

The victim was identified as 22-year-old Diana Marie Raese Malone by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office, and her death was ruled a homicide due to a gunshot injury.

Witnesses told police the possible suspects were nearby. Officers found and detained three people matching the descriptions given, according to police. 

Officers took the three people to police headquarters, where they were interviewed. Aurora Police said on Friday 35-year-old Daniel Revere Matthews had been arrested in connection with Malone's murder. 

Matthews is being held without bond in the Arapahoe County Detention Center.

Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances that led to Malone's death.

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation. 

From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
