Boulder porn suspect accused of posting 'hunting guide' online listing mosques and synagogues

Court records say an FBI agent interviewed Wesley Gilreath in January after he posted the "Montana Hunting Guide" online.

DENVER — A Colorado man facing federal child pornography charges was interviewed by the FBI in January after posting a "hunting guide" online listing mosque and synagogue addresses, authorities said Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors have charged 29-year-old Wesley Gilreath with possessing hundreds of photos and videos of child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn said in a statement that Gilreath was still being investigated in relation to other possible crimes.

Dunn said the case shows authorities will use every available tool to prosecute federal crimes and to disrupt and prevent potential hate crimes.

Court records show that an FBI agent interviewed Gilreath after he posted the "Montana Hunting Guide" online.

The records said FBI agents have seen similar documents used to plan attacks based on victims' ethnicity, religion and other identifiers.

The records also revealed that Gilreath tried to purchase a gun at a store in Boulder in May but was denied. The records do not elaborate.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Scott Varholak said Tuesday that Gilreath was a danger and will be detained pending his trial.

In his written order, Varholak also said investigators found Gilreath had "numerous white supremacist documents and paraphernalia" and had searched for a book about gaining children's trust.

Gilreath's attorney with the federal public defender's office did not immediately return a message Wednesday seeking comment.

Gilreath was arrested after his cellphone was found on a public bus in Boulder in late May. Records say workers trying to find information about the owner discovered child pornography on the phone then contacted Boulder police, who enlisted the FBI.

One FBI investigator said in court records that the phone contained thousands of still images of minors from infants to pre-teens, hundreds of videos, and web searches for violent child pornography.
