Charges filed in shooting of man found dead in Thornton townhouse

Akeem Kearse has been charged in the death of Jason Becker, 33, who was found dead March 25.

THORNTON, Colo. — Charges were filed Friday against a suspect in the shooting of a Thornton man who was found dead in a townhouse last week.

 Akeem Olajuwon Kearse, 34, faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Jason Becker, 33, according to the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office. Kearse is also charged with possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Becker was found dead March 25 on the floor of a townhouse at 9044 Gale Blvd., after Thornton Police were dispatched there on a welfare check. Becker hadn't been to work in several days.

Kearse was booked into the Adams County jail on March 31. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 12.

The affidavit in the case is sealed and the booking mug of Kearse is not being released, according to the District Attorney's Office.
