Suspect killed after shooting involving Colorado Springs police

At least one suspect has died as a result of the shooting according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPCSO) is investigating a shooting involving three officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), leaving at least one suspect dead.

The incident happened near East Bijou Street and North Academy Boulevard, according to EPCSO. At about 1:23 a.m., CSPD received a 911 call from a resident in an apartment in the 3900 block of East Bijou Street, according to CSPD.

The caller told police that there was a man outside her apartment, knocking on her door and window, CSPD tweeted. The caller told police that the man was armed with a gun.

At about 1:36 a.m., CSPD officers arrived and contacted the man who was still in possession of a gun, police said.

Police say they gave multiple commands to the suspect to drop the weapon and the suspect pointed the gun at officers. At least one officer fired at the suspect, hitting him, according to police.

Officers rendered medical aid along with the responding medical personnel, CSPD said in a tweet. The suspect died from his injuries at the scene, according to CSPD. No other injuries were reported from the shooting.

Three CSPD officers have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.

EPCSO will release information about the investigation as it becomes available.

This is a developing situation. This article will be updated as information is confirmed.
