PUEBLO, Colo. — A Colorado State University-Pueblo student was arrested Tuesday afternoon after deputies found a large cache of loaded weapons and ammunition in his truck on campus grounds, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office

Deputies said they were recently alerted about "threatening and concerning statements" made by Robert Killis, 24. Witnesses reported Killis had made threats toward university staff and students. Killis, who the sheriff's office said "has previous military experience," had talked about buying body armor and guns and said "he liked to kill people," according to the sheriff's office.

On Monday, deputies began monitoring Killis. They checked his truck, a 2020 Chevy Silverado, and could see an ammunition box, a bulletproof vest, and a case that appeared large enough to hold a rifle or shotgun, all in plain view.

On Tuesday, deputies got a search warrant for Killis' truck and his apartment in Walking Stick Village on campus.

Deputies followed Killis to a northside restaurant, where he was detained. The sheriff's office said they waited until Killis "was in a safe location away from the campus" to make contact with him.

When asked if he was carrying any weapons on his person, Killis told deputies he didn't have any weapons on him, but said he did have guns in his truck, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies searched the truck and found a loaded semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun, a handgun, several fully-loaded magazines "set up in a tactical manner," an ammunition box filled with additional rounds, and assorted tactical equipment, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies searched Killis' apartment and found another handgun, along with about 100 rounds of ammunition and "other suspicious items," according to the sheriff's office.

Killis was arrested and jailed on charges of unlawful carrying/possessing a weapon on a university campus.

The sheriff's office said CSU-Pueblo has a strict policy regarding weapons on campus, in accordance with Colorado law.

“Out of an overabundance of caution, there will be an added law enforcement presence at the university and our deputies will be available to address any concerns from students and faculty,” Sheriff Kirk Taylor said in a release. “We continue to encourage anyone who sees or hears anything suspicious or threatening that involves an educational setting to report it immediately.”
