Man accused of assaulting snowmobiler in Summit County

The victim sustained injuries to their head and neck, and took themselves to get medical care, according to the sheriff's office.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. — A man who was previously convicted of federal charges for stunts documented on social media is now accused of assaulting another snowmobiler near a trailhead in Summit County last month.

David Lesh, 37, is charged with felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor third-degree assault in connection with the March 25 incident.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office said the alleged assault happened that afternoon at the Spring Creek trailhead in unincorporated Summit County. The victim sustained injuries to their head and neck, and took themselves to get medical care, according to the sheriff's office. Lesh was not on the scene when deputies arrived.

The sheriff's office said witnesses on the scene confirmed the victim's story, and the assault was also captured on the victim's GoPro camera. That video was given to deputies.

The sheriff's office said a warrant for Lesh's arrest was issued on April 17. On Monday, he turned himself in to police in Glendale. He was processed and released on bond.

In September 2021, Lesh was convicted of riding a snowmobile in a closed area of Keystone ski resort in April 2020. He was sentenced in January 2022 to pay $5,000 in fines and perform 160 hours of useful public service, including at least 80 hours "to be a benefit to the White River National Forest."

In 2020, Lesh agreed to pay a $500 fine and do 50 hours of public service for riding his snowmobile in a restricted area near Independence Pass in July 2019.
