Escaped Fremont County inmate captured weeks later

An inmate who went missing last month from a prison near Cañon City was captured on Monday evening, a spokesperson for the Department of Corrections confirmed to 9NEWS.

Michael Onorato, 37, was last seen around 2 a.m. on May 29 at Four Mile Correctional Facility.

Onorato was working with an outside work crew at the cow dairy when he went missing, the DOC said.

He was serving time for Motor Vehicle Theft (6 Years Larimer County), Drug Abuse (20 months Denver County), and Robbery (3 Years Larimer County). Those sentences are to run concurrently.

The DOC said in statement that Onorato was apprehended by the Wheat Ridge Police Department on Sunday.

Details about how Onorato was captured were not immediately released.

Four Mile Correctional Center is considered a level II facility.

The facility can hold approximately 525 inmates.
