Victim identified in Montbello homicide

Medical examiner said victim, Abenezer Zenebe, 19, died of a gunshot wound; police investigating.

DENVER — A man has died after a reported shooting in Denver's Montbello neighborhood Saturday night.

According to Denver Police Department, the man was shot in the 15500 block of East 53rd Avenue, near the Montbello Recreation Center, about 6:30 p.m.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner later identified the man as 19-year-old Abenezer Zenebe.

Zenebe was taken to UCHealth where he was pronounced dead, police said. 

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner said Zenebe died from gunshot wounds. The manner of death is homicide.

A person officers initially detained turned out not to be their suspect, according to a police spokesperson.

The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.
