Man accused of killing brother during fight over dog that was stabbed to death

Daniel Lopez is accused of stabbing his brother to death during a fight over a dog that was also stabbed to death.

KUSA — A Longmont man is accused of fatally stabbing his brother following an argument over a dog that was also stabbed.

According to the Longmont Police Department, the altercation happened just before 11:30 a.m. Monday, when a caller told officers the brothers were fighting about a dog in the 300 block of South Francis Street. The suspect, later identified as Daniel Lopez, was arrested at the scene and a knife related to the stabbing was found nearby.

Lopez was taken to the hospital with wounds from an apparent dog bite.

His 31-year-old brother, who was not identified by name, died at the hospital. A dog was found stabbed to death near their home, according to Longmont police.

What charges Lopez will face were not available as of Monday afternoon. The investigation is supposed to continue into the evening.
