KUSA — A man has been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death more than six months after a 3-year-old girl was found unresponsive and later died at the hospital.
A warrant was obtained for 28-year-old David Lake’s arrest on Tuesday – the same day he was arrested near East Fountain Boulevard and South Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs, police said in a news release Wednesday.
The victim, identified as 3-year-old Bella Ritch, was found unresponsive in a Colorado Springs home on Oct. 2. She died that day, and the coroner later ruled her death a homicide, Colorado Springs Police say.
According to Colorado Springs Police, Lake was involved in a relationship with Ritch’s mother at the time of her death.
It’s unclear why Lake was arrested now.
Police ask anyone with information about this case to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP.
