CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. — A 36-year-old Buena Vista man arrested in February 2020 pleaded guilty to harboring a minor as part of a plea agreement, according to Chaffee County Clerk of Courts Office.
A 13-year-old girl from Moffat was reported missing from her home on Feb. 16 and was spotted by a passerby at the Poncha Springs Visitors Center the next day, investigators said.
Deputies said they responded to the tip and confirmed that the teen was the missing juvenile.
Following an investigation, authorities arrested Jason Andrew Harter on Feb. 21.
Harter originally faced the following charges, according to court records:
- Felony second-degree kidnapping
- Felony sex assault
- Felony enticement of a child
- Misdemeanor child abuse
As part of the plea agreement, court documents say Harter pleaded guilty to the one charge and had the rest dismissed by the district attorney. The sentence order says Harter was sentenced to 180 days in jail, received credit for time served and was ordered to pay $258.50 in fines and court costs.
Moffat is located in Saguache County, about 180 miles southwest of Denver. Chaffee County is directly north of Saguache County.
