AURORA, Colo. — A man has been formally charged in connection to a deadly stabbing that occurred last Wednesday night in Aurora.

Matthew Nagel, 28, was arrested and is facing a charge of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of James Edward Reed, 59, the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office announced on Tuesday. 

At about 8 p.m., officers responded to the 9800 block of East Colfax Avenue on reports of a stabbing, where they found an adult male, later identified as Reed, suffering from a stab wound to the neck. 

After attempting to provide life-saving measures, Reed was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Nagel was arrested a short time later near the scene of the stabbing. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for May 14 at 1:30 p.m. 

Anyone who was a witness, or has information about the homicide, is asked to call Aurora Police Agent Heath Graw at 303-739-6213. Tipsters can also remain anonymous, and be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, by contacting Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
