Man pleads guilty in death of 85-year-old in Adams County

Joshua Miles, 30, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of second-degree murder.

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo — A man has pleaded guilty to a murder charge in connection with the December 2021 death of an 85-year-old man in Adams County.

Joshua Miles, 30, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of second-degree murder.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office said the victim was found dead inside a home on Wagner Street near the intersection with 88th Street in unincorporated Adams County on Dec. 29, 2021. Deputies also determined items, including a car, had been stolen from the home.

The next day, police found the car at an apartment complex in Northglenn. Officers searched an apartment and found evidence that led them to a hotel in the area of 120th Street and Grant Avenue. Two suspects were arrested there on Dec. 31 after trying to escape, the sheriff's office said at the time.

The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office said the two suspects were initially charged with:

  • Second-degree murder
  • First-degree burglary
  • First-degree assault
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Theft
  • Aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • Unlawful possession of a controlled substance
  • Two crime of violence sentence enhancers

Prosecutors said Miles faces between 35 and 48 years in prison when he is sentenced April 14.

His codefendant, 29-year-old Kyli Ferguson, pleaded not guilty in September to the charges against her, according to court documents. Her next court appearance is set for Feb. 22.
