KUSA – A man will spend 30 years in prison for sex trafficking a 17-year-old teen at a Black Hawk casino last year.

John Sears, 42, was arrested in October of 2015 during the FBI’s “Operation Cross Country,” an annual national enforcement aimed at recovering underage victims of prostitution.

Sears arranged a “date” for the teen at Ameristar Casino Hotel which turned out to be an undercover police officer, according to District Attorney’s office.

The girl was recovered, and an investigation led police to Sears, who they learned had been providing the teen with methamphetamine and place to stay in exchange having sex with strangers for money.

“This young woman was the product of abuse and neglect, she was addicted to drugs and had run away from home,” District Attorney Pete Weir said, “Her vulnerability is exactly what made her a valuable commodity for Mr. Sears and others who engage in the sex trafficking of children. This is a just sentenced for this abhorrent crime.”

Sears was sentenced on November 28. He pled guilty to human trafficking of a child, pimping of a child and first-degree assault back on September 6.
