DENVER - The man who Denver police say hit and killed a bicyclist with his car then left the scene now faces several charges, including vehicular homicide.
According to the Denver District Attorney's Office, 33-year-old Kendal Gilkey hit the cyclist around 2 a.m. at Speer Boulevard and Logan Street on June 23. This is right outside the 9NEWS building.
Gilkey left the crash, but was taken into custody a few blocks down the road after an area search. Police say he seemed impaired and at the time, alcohol was considered to be a factor in the deadly crash.
The cyclist, a 37-year-old man whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gilkey is charged with vehicular homicide-DUI, leaving the scene of an accident-resulting in death and vehicular homicide-reckless/causing death.
He also faces charges that allege he was driving recklessly, didn't have a license or insurance.
Gilkey is scheduled to appear on July 11 at 8 a.m. for a second advisement.
