COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — An off-duty officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) shot and killed a man who broke into his vehicle and threatened him with a gun while he was in the drive-thru of a Carl's Jr. restaurant, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPCSO).

The officer called 911 around 3:45 a.m. from the restaurant at the 1000 block of Space Center Drive, near Space Center Drive and Galley Road, and reported that he fired at least one round at the unknown man who had entered his vehicle, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies with EPCSO responded and performed life-saving measures on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer was not hurt. He has been placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with CSPD policy. This is the second officer-involved shooting involving CSPD in 2020.
