Person taken to hospital after shooting in Denver's Ruby Hill neighborhood

A man told 9NEWS that his 14-year-old granddaughter was shot in the leg Sunday night. The Denver Police Department has only confirmed someone was sent to the hospital after a shooting.

DENVER — A person had to be taken to the hospital Sunday night with injuries that weren't believed to be life-threatening after a shooting in Denver's Ruby Hill neighborhood, according to the Denver Police Department.

The shooting happened in the 1800 block of South Wyandot Street - a few blocks south of Sanderson Gulch Park and a bit west of Ruby Hill Park, law enforcement said.

A man on scene told 9NEWS reporter Katie Eastman that his 14-year-old granddaughter was shot in the leg after his son recognized his own stolen car and approached the driver. Authorities on scene have not confirmed this.

In a tweet, DPD said officers were on scene investigating a shooting. No other information was available, including what led up to the shooting, any identifying information about the victim, nor any suspect information.

Several hours after the initial call out, DPD was able to confirm the person shot suffered injuries that weren't believed to be life-threatening via Tweet.
