Suspect arrested in fatal stabbing at Colfax motel

Police said the victim and suspect knew each other, and there is no danger to the community.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A man who police said fled the scene after a deadly stabbing at a West Colfax Avenue motel Thursday is now in custody.

The Lakewood Police Department has identified the suspect as 35-year-old Jesus Osvaldo Bernal. He faces charges for first-degree murder following the deadly altercation, which happened at the Trail’s End Motel in the 9000 block of West Colfax Avenue between Wadsworth Boulevard and South Kipling Street on Thursday.

The victim, identified as 41-year-old Alyghel “A.J.” Badua, was found by police with at least one stab wound. He died at the hospital.

Police said the suspect and the victim knew one another, but would not say what motivated the stabbing. 

Bernal is being held at the Jefferson County jail.
