KUSA — A suspect is in an area hospital and an officer is on administrative leave after a member of Aurora police SWAT shot a man Wednesday night, authorities said.

According to Officer Kenneth Forrest with the Aurora Police Department, the man who was shot was wanted on an arrest warrant for domestic violence charges. He was identified Thursday as Martin Lobatos-Realzola. The 47-year-old remains stable and under police custody at an area hospital, according to the Aurora Police Department.

No officers were injured.

Around 5:15 p.m. Sept. 5, Aurora PD SWAT arrived in the 2200 block of Fairplay Street seeking a suspect from a previous incident wanted on domestic violence charges, law enforcement said. After getting in touch with the Lobatos-Realzola, officers quickly learned he had some kind of weapon and one opened fire, according to Forrest.

That officer is on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of a joint investigation into the shooting by the Denver Police Department and the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office. Forrest denied identifying the officer.

After he was shot, a medic on the SWAT team began to administer first aid to the Lobatos-Realzola Forrest said. Police would not say where exactly the shooting happened or what type of weapon the man had on him.

The 2200 block of Fairplay Street is in a residential area of Aurora just east of Interstate 225.

There is not believed to be a threat to the public. Anyone with information about the suspect or the shooting is asked to call Detective Nick Huber with the Aurora Police Department at 303-739-6090.

Officers at the scene were wearing body cameras that caught footage of the event in real time. Aurora Chief of Police Nick Metz and other command staff have reviewed the footage, according to police.
