Suspect shot, killed after altercation with officers, deputies in Rangely

No officers or deputies were injured.

A man was shot and killed following an altercation with deputies and officers in western Colorado on Monday night, according to a release from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers with the Rangley Police Department and deputies with the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Highway 64 and Highway 139 in Rangely. 

As deputies and officers attempted to apprehend a suspect at the intersection, shots were fired, the release said.

One of the suspects was hit and later died from his injuries. No officers or deputies were injured.

Additional details on what led up to the shooting have not been released.

The 9th Judicial District Critical Incident Team is handling the investigation into the shooting.
