JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colorado — A suspect wanted on multiple warrants is dead after a confrontation with officers in Jefferson County on Tuesday afternoon, said Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Taplin.
Officers with the Safe Streets Task Force tracked the suspect, later identified as Michael Sheridan, to an apartment complex near the intersection of West Belleview Avenue and South Alkire Street.
Since Sheridan was wanted for a violent offense, Taplin said the Jefferson County Regional SWAT team was called to the scene to assist.
At some point, Sheridan fired shots at officers, Taplin said. Officers returned fire, and fatally wounded him. No officers were injured.
Sheridan was wanted for felony menacing, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and third-degree assault, Taplin said.
