Denver Post reacts to anonymous New York Times op-ed

The editorial page editor at the Denver Post called the New York Times' decision to the run the anonymous op-ed "astounding."

When Megan Schrader read the anonymous op-ed the New York Times said is written by a senior official in the Trump administration, she said she wished she was a fly on the wall when the editorial staff made that decision.

"It's pretty incredible," said Schrader, the editor of the Denver Post editorial pages.

In the opinion piece, titled, "I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration" the author said White House officials are working against the president because of his "misguided impulses."

“Most of the claims were of a nature where you can’t fact check it that closely," Schrader said. "But I can imagine they did do some due diligence calling other sources in the White House and running some of it by them."

Schrader said she can't think of a single person in Colorado she would grant anonymity to for a column in the editorial pages, and would most likely hand over the source to the newsroom if someone came forward with an accusation against an elected official.

“This is an unnamed source’s opinion with no additional backup to it just being put out there for the public," she said of the column in the Times.

In addition to the single source, Schrader said this must put "news staff at the 'New York Times' in an incredibly difficult position" because they will most likely want to investigate and report who the source.
