LAKEWOOD — A Jefferson County school that in October started a food pantry to help their students in-need will now begin collecting donations for other parts of the district.

The first drive to collect food and clothing donations for Westgate Elementary's food pantry, “The Hub," was so successful, students will host them the first weekend of every month.

That drive took place last weekend, and people donated over 800 canned goods, as well as toiletry items, toilet paper and cleaning items. They also received winter gear for needing families as winter moves in.
The Hub parent volunteer Beth Parker said 65 percent of students at Westgate are on free or reduced lunch.
“We realized we need to help provide those families with food and clothing," Parker said.
The next drive will be the first weekend of December.
