The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office says what began as a shots fired report at Colorado Mesa University Sunday was actually a blown speaker at Saunders Field.
Megan Terlecky with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office clarified no shots were ever fired on campus and no one was injured.
There were brief concerns that there was an active shooter situation.
“The sound equipment was the source of the popping sound,” the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office tweeted.
9NEWS has reached out to Colorado Mesa University for comment and has not yet heard back.
Colorado Mesa University is located in Grand Junction.
