Denver among cities with the most student debt

Denver ranks among the top cities with the most student debt, according to a new study from LendingTree.

Denver Business Journal — Denver ranks among the top cities with the most student debt, according to a new study from LendingTree, an online loan marketplace. The metro area’s residents have a median balance of $20,180 in student loan debt, ranking the city No. 12, the study said.

According to the data, Denverites have an average of 3.6 student loans and about 22.3 percent owe more than $50,000. A little more than seven percent owe more than $100,000 in student loan debt.

Colorado Springs ranks No. 60, with a median balance of $17,594.

The average median balance of student loan debt in the country is $17,938, with an average of 3.4 loans per person. Nearly 20 percent of people owe more than $50,000, while six percent owe more than $100,000.
