KUSA — The Evans Police Department believes there are more videos of an incident where investigators believe a teacher taped a 7th grade student to a chair and put tape on the child’s mouth.

Evans Police Chief Rick Brandt said a school resource officer at Prairie Heights Middle School received a 13-second video of what occurred on Thursday from an unnamed administrator, prompting an investigation. That video was taken by a student, he said.

The spokesperson for Greeley-Evans School District 6 said the parents of the boy depicted in the video came forward to the school.

“Based on the content of the video, no clear conclusion can be drawn as to what exactly we’re dealing with,” Brandt said. “The video taken in context with other information we have did raise our level of concern.”

At this point, no criminal charges have been filed against the teacher. She has not yet been identified, but the school district says she's been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

Investigators will likely spend the next week or two gathering information, according to Brandt. He said they have spoken to the boy who was apparently taped to the chair. Police have reached out to his parents as well.

There has not, however, been a full interview with detectives, Brandt said.

Brandt said the police department will not be releasing the video of the incident until the investigation has been concluded.

Evans is a town of around 21,000 people south of Greeley.

Brandt asked anyone with additional videos of the incident or with information that can help investigators to contact police.
