FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The former head of one of Colorado's largest school districts will soon have a new job at Colorado State University (CSU).

CSU President Amy Parsons announced in a release Thursday that Rico Munn, who until recently was the superintendent of Aurora Public Schools (APS), will serve as her chief of staff beginning July 1.

In addition to serving as superintendent of APS, Munn has been the executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education and of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.

He served on the Board of Governors of the CSU System from 2013-2020, on the Colorado Board of Education from 2003-2007, and currently serves on the board of trustees for Midland University (formerly Midland Lutheran College).

Munn earned his bachelor's degree at Midland Lutheran College and his law degree at the University of Denver.

“Rico and I have worked together for many years, and I have enormous trust in his judgment and experience,” Parsons said in a statement. “As head of one of the state’s largest and most diverse school districts, he brings a deep understanding of Colorado education at all levels that will be invaluable as we seek to strengthen our commitment to educational access and equity. He also has considerable experience leading large teams of people in a complex organization, and that managerial strength will help us keep all of our University priorities and goals on track.”

As chief of staff, Munn will oversee operations and budgets for the Office of the President at CSU, lead special projects on the president's behalf, and represent the president in key meetings and discussions, according to the release.

Munn served as the superintendent of APS from 2013 to 2022. He is currently serving in a support role as the district searches for a new leader.
