AURORA — The University of Colorado Hospital on Tuesday announced that it has officially received a Level I trauma center designation.

Level I trauma centers are those that treat the most severe and complex injuries 24 hours a day.

The hospital joins Swedish Medical Center, St. Anthony Hospital & Medical Campus, Denver Health, and UCHealth Memorial Hospital, Colorado's current Level 1 trauma centers.

“I truly believe this [hospital] is one of the reasons why I am here,” said Dave Repsher. Repsher suffered burns on more than 90 percent of his body when the Flight for Life helicopter he was in went down shortly after takeoff in Frisco in 2015.

"My recovery is due, in no small part, to being able to have every service when I needed it in one place," Repsher added.

Repsher spent more than a year recovering at the University of Colorado Hospital.
