DENVER — Many theaters today have about a dozen movies, if not more, for you to choose from.
But back in the 60s, there was a very special theatre in Denver that would only show a few select films a year. It was also the subject of Friday night's You Are Here segment.
The Cooper Theatre was built on Colorado near Kentucky to specifically show Cinerama films.
Crews broke ground on the theater in March 1960 and it had its grand opening in March 1961.
Cinerama films were movies that required three projectors to play the movie on a circular screen.
Before the Denver theatre was built they had only been shown at a theatre in New York, according to articles from the Denver Public Library.
The Cooper Theatre was in Colorado until the early 90s when it was eventually demolished in 1994 and a Barnes & Noble was built in its place.
We posted clues about the theatre on our Facebook page Friday night to see who remembered the unique Denver landmark.
Rebecca Atwell was the first to guess this one correctly.
