The Frederick man who was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for killing his pregnant wife and two young daughters has been transferred to a facility in Wisconsin, 9NEWS learned on Friday.

Chris Watts, 33, was moved out of state on or before Dec. 3 due to safety concerns, but at the time his location was not disclosed.

On Friday morning, his mother Cindy Watts confirmed to 9NEWS he was moved to Wisconsin.

Prior to the move, Chris Watts, 33, was being held at the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center, which is described on its website as an intake and classification facility that can hold up to 575 inmates.

On Nov. 19, Watts was sentenced to five life terms in the Colorado Department of Corrections plus 84 years for the murders his wife Shanann and their two daughters, Bella 4, and Celeste, 3.

He also received the maximum sentence of 48 years for the charge of unlawful termination of a pregnancy, and 12 years for all three of the counts for abuse of a corpse.
