ARVADA — As Senior Mady Moran prepares for the Ralston Valley High School prom, she knows one big part of her life is missing on this special night -- father.

"He has leukemia. So, he's in the hospital waiting for a bone marrow transplant," Mady said.

Dan Moran is a long time firefighter with West Metro Fire Rescue. His wife, Jenn Moran, believes his leukemia is work-related. Since he can't be at the house with the family, Jenn says the family plans to go see him on the way to prom.

"Cause he's never missed it. He's always been there," Jenn said. "It's important to me because it's important to him. He was really sad he's going to miss this."

After Mady gets dressed and takes pictures with her friends, she plans to go to Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center for a special pre-prom with her father.

"Cause like it's prom and he's like always been there and I don't know I want him to be able to like do it with me," Mady said.

Dan says he's excited that they're coming down. He has to undergo five days of chemotherapy before receiving stem cell treatment in his bone marrow.

"It's a big deal. This is my baby and it's a bummer that I'm missing out on a lot of stuff," Dan said.

The hospital staff made sure he's missing out on anything. They created a special "prom room" for Dan to see his daughter and place a corsage on her wrist.

"I'm just hoping she has a great time tonight and I'm glad I got to be a part of it," Dan said.
