110-mph chase ends in hideous crash

Deputies say they began chasing the suspect down CO 392 toward downtown Windsor. They say the suspect refused to stop and hit a guardrail as he crossed over the Poudre River.

According to deputies, the suspect headed into downtown Windsor at a speed of 110 mph. Deputies say as he crossed 7th Street, he lost control of the vehicle and smashed into three parked cars near the Duke of Windsor bar.

"I was outside, in front of the Duke here and coming down the road here, I heard like a screeching sound from the car," Kyle Fanning of Fort Collins said. "And it hit this first car and we all kind of ducked down, kind of hid from the car, you know, parts flying."

Fanning said a piece of the debris sliced his knuckle, and hit his friend Amanda Huff in the legs.

"He hit the car and I turned around and got hit by the glass and the metal that was flying and I turned back around and there was just stuff flying everywhere and dust and dirt," Huff said. "And then when I turned back around, he was just in the middle of the road and all these cars were smashed."

Huff, who works at a nursing home, says she's happy she can go home to her two puppies.

"When he hit the car, that kind of saved us because he was coming straight toward us," Huff said. "It could have been really bad. He was coming straight toward us. There were at least five of us standing here that he almost hit, if the car hadn't been here."

The driver, who was identified as 22-year-old Levi Korgan of Greeley, suffered minor injuries. He was treated at Medical Center of the Rockies and then was booked into jail on charges of eluding, DUI, driving under suspension and reckless driving.

Fanning says he has no way of getting to work on Monday now that his car is totaled.

"My car - everything in my trunk is on the sidewalk right now," Fanning said. "Remember the Windsor tornado? My car lived that tornado, and my car's gone, so."

Longtime resident Gloria Lujan was shocked by what she saw when she came out of the Duke of Windsor.

"We've lived here all of our lives and we've never seen anything like this here in town," Lujan said. "It was just amazing to come out and see that."

David C. Huber said: "It's trippy for Windsor, you know. This is like the most excitement we've had since the tornado and stuff. I don't really know what to think, but wow." />
