Animal Control officer seriously injured in dog attack in Larimer County

The dogs have been secured. The Sheriff's Office says there is no threat to public safety.

LARIMER COUNTY — A Larimer County Animal Control officer was seriously injured when he was attacked by two dogs.

According to a release from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, deputies went out to the 8200 block of East County Road 18 outside of Johnstown Saturday afternoon to assist Animal Control, which was there to follow up on a previous incident. They were unable to contact the homeowner, and as the officer was leaving, the dogs attacked him.

Deputies and additional Animal Control officers came in and secured the dogs. The officer was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery for his injuries. As of Sunday afternoon, the officer's condition was not known, but he was stable.

The Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation. They say there is no public safety concern. Information about the type of dogs has not been released.
