1 killed, 1 critically hurt in head-on crash

Police suspect alcohol was a factor and said neither driver was wearing a seat belt.

AURORA, Colo. — One man is dead and another critically injured in a head-on crash in Aurora just before 2 a.m. Sunday.

The Aurora Police Department (APD) said a Pontiac Firebird was headed west on East 6th Avenue near North Fulton Street and a Nissan Murano was headed east when the driver of the Firebird drifted into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the Murano.

The man driving the Firebird died at the scene. The driver of the Murano was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor and that neither driver was wearing his seat belt.

The name of the man who died will come from the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office.

Both directions of East 6th Avenue were closed for more than three hours for the investigation.

APD said this was the 8th fatal crash in Aurora this year.
