GRAND COUNTY – Deputies with the Grand County Sheriff’s Office located a body in the Colorado River on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities believe it’s the body a of a 19-year-old Avon man who has been missing since Thursday near Gore Canyon.

The body was located about 3 p.m. near the Applesauce/Fisherman’s Nightmare Rapids of the Gore Canyon.

A friend of the missing man said he left camp to find firewood at about midnight Thursday, and when he returned his friend was gone.

The search has been officially suspended and recovery efforts will begin Sunday morning.

About 50 members of the Grand County Sheriff's Office, Grand County Search and Rescue, Summit County Search and Rescue, Summit County Water Rescue, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Vail Mountain Rescue and the Bureau of Land Management helped with the search.
