Boulder council votes to move forward on city power-utility plan

The Boulder City Council voted 6-3 late Monday to press on with its years-long effort to create a city-owned power utility in place of Xcel Energy Inc.

The Boulder City Council voted 6-3 late Monday to press on with its years-long effort to create a city-owned power utility in place of Xcel Energy Inc.

The vote came after a public hearing that lasted for hours.

The council voted to reject putting settlement offers from Xcel (NYSE: XEL) on the November city ballot and signaled it will not pause in its effort to create a new utility serving Boulder residents and businesses.
