LAKEWOOD – A group of human remains detection dogs – better known as cadaver dogs – went through a special training session Sunday.

Experts say a properly-trained cadaver dog can detect a single tooth in a 10,000-acre area – something beyond the scope of coverage law enforcement can provide.

Dog handler Bonnie Guzman said more than anything, these dogs help provide closure to families that need it the most.

"I think it has to be the most horrible feeling in the world to know that a family member has died, and you don't know where they are," Guzman said. "So for us to help with that, and to locate and bring that person home, I think is the greatest thing you can do."
