Tamu, who was the oldest giraffe in North America, died Thursday afternoon, according to a Facebook post from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
The post said, Tamu, a 32-year-old female giraffe, passed away peacefully and naturally surrounding by zookeepers and vet staff.
She came to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in 2003 and was often affectionately referred to as ‘Moose’ or ‘Grandma.’
Tamu gave birth to six calves, leaving a legacy of 29 grandcalves, nine great-grandcalves and one great-great-grandcalf, according to the zoo's Facebook post.
