5 new charges filed against Club Q suspect

The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office filed a motion for the additional charges on Jan. 23. The judge granted the motion despite defense counsel's objections.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Five new charges have been formally filed against the suspected Club Q shooter. The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office filed to add the new charges on Jan. 23. Judge Michael McHenry approved the additional charges on Jan. 25 despite the suspected shooters' objections.

The new charges come two weeks after prosecutors added 12 more charges related to the Nov. 19 shooting that killed five people. The suspected shooter, Anderson Aldrich, now faces 323 total charges.

The most recent charges are related to an additional victim. The new charges are:

  • Attempted first-degree murder after deliberation
  • Attempted first-degree murder - extreme indifference
  • Attempted first-degree assault - serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon
  • Attempted first-degree assault - extreme indifference
  • Bias-motivated crime
  • Crime of violence

Daniel Aston, Derrick Rump, Ashley Paugh, Kelly Loving and Raymond Green Vance were killed in the shooting. Seventeen others suffered gunshot wounds, and five others were injured, but not by gunfire, police said.

A three-day preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin Feb. 22 at the El Paso County courthouse. The suspected shooter and their defense counsel have objected to the preliminary hearing's timing saying they are "woefully un-prepared" due to nearly 5,000 pages of discovery and more than a terabyte of media discovery.
