Colo. murder suspect chooses insanity plea

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A suspect in the 2002 slayings of a couple from Crystola has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Nineteen-year-old Josiah Seth Ivy is facing charges including first-degree murder, car theft and arson. He appeared in court yesterday. Ivy is accused in the shooting deaths of 47-year-old Gary Alflen and 39-year-old Stacy Dahl, who were found dead in their home in November 2002. Another suspect -- 22-year-old Michael Paprocki -- has already been convicted, and is serving back-to-back life sentences. Prosecutors say Ivy and Paprocki randomly selected the couple to burglarize and kill because Ivy wanted to experience what killing was like. Ivy's lawyer says his client was insane at the time of the crimes and incapable of determining right from wrong. The trial is scheduled for June 14.
