Interstate 70 eastbound at I-225 was closed for hours as Denver Police investigated an early morning rollover crash that killed two people and injured three others on Sunday.

Doug Schepman with the Denver Police Department says the crash happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. between a silver sedan and a dark-colored sedan.

Schepman says the silver sedan was traveling in the left lane of traffic with a man driving and a woman passenger inside.

The dark sedan was traveling in the center lane with three people inside, two men and a woman.

Schepman says the driver of the silver sedan merged into the center lane, hitting the dark sedan and causing both vehicles to roll.

The man and woman inside the dark-colored sedan died at the scene, police said.

Everyone else was taken to a hospital. Their conditions and names have not yet been released.

Schepman says alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
