Driver cited after crashing into school bus filled with students in Loveland

A driver was cited after police said he crashed into a school bus that was carrying 14 elementary and middle school students from the Thompson School District.

A 79-year-old man was cited after he crashed his jeep into a school bus carrying 14 children causing it to veer off the road, according to a release from the Loveland Police Department.

The crash involving a bus from the Thompson School District happened in the 5700 block of Highway 34 just before 8 a.m. Tuesday.

A 2012 Jeep Wrangler was headed east on Eisenhower when the driver made a left turn and crashed into the school bus, the news release said. The impact of the crash sent the bus off the roadway and into some landscaping on the side of the road, but it remained upright, police said.

Four students and the driver of the bus reported minor injuries, according to police. All of them were treated and released at the scene.

All the bus occupants, which included elementary and middle school students, were transferred to another bus. Loveland Police School Resource Officers coordinated with the Thompson School District to make notifications to the parents of the students.

Loveland Police cited the driver of the jeep, a 79-year-old Berthoud man, for failing to yield when turning left.
